Sturdy Glass Sponges - my new podcast
Ok go easy on me – this is my first podcast series I’ve ever developed with my trailer now out.
It’s good to stretch our capacities and contributions by trying something new, and most importantly, it’s so important to be able to give back to the broader community to help inspire total well-being for all.
As my 2023 community giving initiative, I’m so proud to bring you my new podcast series, Sturdy Glass Sponges. Over the course of my episodes (which officially drop on January 24), I take a deep dive in the world of personal suffering and life’s challenges to arrive at a place where the pressures feel a little less intense. Joining me are some amazing guests who will inspire us to change the way we view what’s going on in our own lives as they share their personal stories of loss, grief, illness, growth, well-being and hope.
Joining me as well are some incredibly powerful voices, including Paul TP Wong, PhD, C. Psych (Professor Emeritus, Trent University), Mary Ann Baynton (Workplace Relations Specialist), Dr. Giacomo Falcucci (Associate Professor at University of Rome and Harvard), and Hamish Tweed (Technical deep-sea diver). And in the last episode, I’m joined by Diane McIntosh (Psychiatrist, Author, and Educator) who brings her evidence-based research perspectives on what trauma and personal suffering does to our brains and how we can rewire the neurological mappings that help us be who we are.
My aim with this limited edition podcast series is to look at one central question: how can we stay whole when things feel hard, painful, broken? No one is immune to life’s pressures, and when they pile on, it can sometimes feel impossible to move forward let alone accept it.
If one thing is certain in life, it's that we’ll never get to the bottom of the questions we ask when the bad stuff happens. Maybe some of us might, and I hope that’s you reading this. And as much as sometimes stuff doesn’t make sense, the ability to change what we’re asking instead lies in our hands.
Oh – and the name? Sturdy Glass Sponges? I often turn to nature as I reflect on human health and well-being and deep down on the ocean floor, a 520 million year old animal, the glass sponge, continues to thrive despite the pressures that come with being under water. They lean on each other, they regenerate, and they’re able to rewire how they grow to keep going.
It’s an inspiring podcast and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you.
Listen to Sturdy Glass Sponges everywhere you enjoy your podcasts – check it out on Apple, Amazon, Spotify, iHeart.
Can’t wait to hear what you think.
